From charming boutiques to the big chains, from the unique to the practical, Springfield's shopping centers cater to everyone's tastes and budgets. Take a drive up and down Springfield's two big shopping corridors — Veterans Parkway on the west and Dirksen Parkway on the east — to find the big retailers you know and trust. And then don't forget downtown Springfield for a collection of one-of-a-kind shops that are sure to have the perfect gift for yourself or that special someone.


VETERANS PARKWAY CORRIDOR

* The Gables — 2800 Plaza Drive (off Veterans Parkway and Greenbriar Drive)

Some of Springfield's finest clothing and home decorating stores can be found in The Gables. Several restaurants and other services are also available.

* White Oaks West — Veterans Parkway and Iles Avenue

This strip mall, located across Veterans Parkway from White Oaks Mall, includes Kohl's, a grocery store and several restaurants and shops.

* White Oaks Mall — Veterans Parkway and Wabash Avenue

Anchored by Bergner's, Famous-Barr, Sears, Dick's Sporting Goods and Linens 'n Things, White Oaks Mall has more than 115 specialty stores and restaurants.

* Southwest Plaza — Veterans Parkway and Wabash Avenue

A large collection of familiar names, including Old Navy and Barnes and Noble, along with other niche shops and dining are available.

* Sherwood Plaza — Veterans Parkway and Wabash Avenue

Offers office supply store, Kmart, shoes stores and restaurants.

* Chatham Square Center and The Yard Shopping Center — Wabash Avenue, 1 mile west of Veterans

Includes craft and hardware stores, off-track betting facility, clothing outlets, restaurants and more.

* Parkway Pointe — Veterans Parkway and Freedom Drive

Target, Menards and a variety of restaurants, specialty shops and a movie theater fill this west-side shopping center.

* Prairie Crossing — Veterans Parkway and Prairie Crossing Drive

The city's newest and largest collection of auto dealerships all in one location is here. A Meijer superstore and restaurants also are available.

DIRKSEN PARKWAY CORRIDOR

* Northeast Shopping Area — Dirksen Parkway and Sangamon Avenue

Located just off Interstate 55's Sangamon Avenue exit (Exit 100), Springfield's northeast shopping area is one of the fastest growing retail areas in the city. Anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter, Lowes and Big R, the area features a variety of familiar names and services to meet virtually any everyday need.

* Capital City Shopping Center — Dirksen Parkway and Stevenson Drive

Anchored by a ShopKo, Capital City includes several well-known stores, specialty shops, dining choices and a movie theater.

CENTRAL CITY

* Sangamon Center North — 19th Street and Sangamon Avenue

Located a few blocks east of the Illinois State Fairgrounds on Springfield's north side, Sangamon Center is anchored by Schnucks grocery store and has an extensive line of shops and services.

* Downtown

Whether it’s the finest men's clothing, trendy women's wear, a distinctive gift you won't find anywhere else or even an authentic Lincoln sculpture, the heart of Springfield is the place to go. Scattered amid the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and the other historic sites in the city's center, downtown's shopkeepers are ready to serve you. And don't miss the Old Capitol Farmers Market, offering fresh produce downtown every Wednesday and Saturday during spring and summer.

* Town and Country Shopping Center — 2403 S. MacArthur Blvd.

Anchored by Burlington Coat Factory and MC Sports, a variety of restaurants, specialty shopping and personal services are offered at this south-side center.

* Jewel-Osco Plaza — 2777 S. Sixth St.

Besides Jewel-Osco, this south-side center offers banking, a tavern and discount shopping.
